Born in the Northwest, he migrated to the South where he attended academy and college and began pastoral ministry. He has served as a falculty member at Pacific Union College and as dean of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, Andrews University. He holds a PhD in New Testament studies from the University of Sheffield and writes regularly on the Epistle to the Ephesians and the theme of the church in the New Testament. John and his wife Pam have two grown children, Marshall and Macy.
